Sister Bailey Guthrie: Tender Mercy Cookies

Hey y’all. Sorry this will probably be a short email because we’ve been out and about all day but I wanted to write about some of the details of this past week! So, about a week ago we were trying to make contact with one of our investigators and she wasn’t home. We pulled our car around the corner to park and knock on some doors. Across the street was a house with a pink bike in the front yard. I felt like we should try knocking on the door, especially because it looked like a family lived there. We knocked on the door and a nice girl answered. They had had a busy morning so she asked us to come back another time. Well, this week we were able to teach her! It turns out she’s married, has a daughter and a baby on the way and she’s only about a year older than me. She is so sweet but was really apprehensive about prophets. We taught her about the restoration and just bore testimony over and over again to try to help her feel the spirit. She agreed to read the Book of Mormon. Last night we went to batesville to visit some of the sweet older members in the ward on our visiting teaching list. We visited one lady who is pretty much home bound and brought her some cookies. We shared a message about the #Lighttheworld initiative and afterwards her nephew said, “you know, right before you showed up she was talking about how she wanted cookies but wasn’t going to be able to have any today and then you knocked on the door”. It was a sweet tender mercy. I love when Heavenly Father lets us see just how aware He is of His children and allows you to help Him serve them. Like I said, I don’t have a lot of time but there were many great experiences this week I could talk about. To go along with the story of the delivered cookies I’ll share a few of my favorite verses from the Book of Mormon where a missionary is teaching a man with little knowledge of who God is, just how much He loves and knows him. “And Ammon said unto him: The heavens is a place where God dwells and all his holy angels. And king Lamoni said: Is it above the earth? And Ammon said: Yea, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart; for by his hand were they all created from the beginning” (Alma 18:30-32). You are a child of a loving Heavenly Father. I know that because I’ve seen Him reach out to help, save, comfort, succor, sustain, bless, protect, heal, and strengthen me over and over again.
